Nuance

A new life is conceived in an egg. Well protected, it is floating in its water and listens to the sounds from outside, imaging how the world would look like. It is comfortably dark and warm inside.

One day, there is a crack and the egg hatches. The life sees the light, then feels the air. An adventure begins. Beware of dangers, search for joys. Now, it has left its eggshell behind.

And the eggshell? Does it feel alone or bored? No, on the contrary, it remains busy.

During the day, it lies in the warmth of the sun, watching how the sunshine touches the shell and moves slowly along the crack on its round surface. When the sun goes down behind the hills, it looks up and sees how the colours change in the sky. From yellow to orange, then red, purple and blue, becoming deeper and deeper until it is black. Once the sky is dark, it hears the whispers of the stars and the moon. It is getting cooler on the ground, time to sleep after a long day.

When it is windy, the eggshell may be covered by dusty sand. If this happens, it will take a careful look at these small grains of earth. Some shiny, others dull, in all different colours and shapes. When it rains, the dust will be washed away and droplets form as pearls on its white shell. On the next day, it will dry once again in the sun.

The eggshell also has many friends. In the warm seasons, bees and ants come, wanting to rest in its shade. The wind brings the seeds and pollen from the fields, while twigs and branches from the trees above cast a labyrinth of shadows. Sometimes, from the taller trees by the river, small flowers and leaves fall directly onto the eggshell. In the calm winter, it is covered by the frost during the night and thawing by day. From time to time, it is visited by the snow, which a while later will just disappear.

Many months and seasons pass by. It shines and rains. There are cloudy days, stormy nights, and as this carries on, one day, an image suddenly appears – a blue one, inside the eggshell. Looking closer, this small picture seems to be a kind of trace or a mark of what the eggshell must have seen before.

But how did this happen?

The little blue picture in the eggshell is made from fine grains of earth, sunshine, raindrops and dew. Small creatures, who have visited the eggshell helped as well. They were good models, patiently staying still in the sun. Various seasonal plants, whether it be their flowers, leaves, stems or seeds, have all left unique shapes and characters. And the stars and the snow? They gave inspirations for the abstractions. Finally, drops of resin from the tree have completed the work, wishing it a bright long life.

That is what happened to the eggshell. All this was possible with many gifts from nature, some curious minds and a few timely coincidences. Such things can happen to anyone, anywhere, at any time.
