Book review on "B's Vanity"

Natasha Christia

The third monograph of Matsuoka, accompanied with the two quotations from King Lear by William Shakespeare, deals with the theme "vanity".

As in Matsuoka's former series, these images were all found in the daily life, yet carefully composed to emphasize the perishable beauty and fleeting youth. Keeping a distance from the language of documentary photography or critical journalism when depicting the objects that one sees in a street, the narrative images here also reveal a subtle reference to the cruel fate of modern society.

"B's Vanity" includes thirty nine b/w photographs in a square format, off-set printed with duplex in an edition of 500.
